Monday morning our first 'official' day. Have been to the mercato and am now watching the canal traffic outside - our apartment is near a canal T junction and an approach to the junction requires either a loud cry of 'whoa' or a loud toot and then much manoeuvring with associated outboard revving. Once the boats are gone, the sound of gentle water lapping returns.
